Overview
Principal Psychologist 8b 0.4 WTE (15 hours). Permanent position based at UHNM, in the Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU). The post sits within the specialist Critical Care Psychology Team, alongside a Consultant Psychologist, Principal Psychologists, Senior Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Psychologists. The post holder will support the innovation, development and delivery of psychological services across the ACCU care pathway, including in-patients, ward follow up and an out-patient clinic.
The post holder will be responsible, with the Strategic and Clinical Lead and Consultant Psychologist within Critical Care (NSCHT), for providing a highly skilled psychology service in the specialist area of critical care at UHNM.
Responsibilities
* Provide expertise in the highly specialist clinical area of intensive care and deliver high-quality psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for patients and their families within UHNM critical care services.
* Contribute to design, planning, delivery and evaluation of a psychological service for patients on the ACCU pathway (Critical Care in-patients, ward follow-up at UHNM, and a prospective out-patient clinic).
* Contribute to the delivery of a seven-day psychological service for critical care patients.
* Deliver direct/indirect psychological support for the families/carers of ACCU patients.
* Hold clinical and managerial responsibility for junior psychologists and provide clinical leadership for psychology staff to deliver interventions for complex co-morbid physical and mental health conditions in ITU, including risk of aggression where applicable.
* Provide clinical supervision and training to junior colleagues within the designated psychology service and to external staff.
* Undertake formal research as a major part of the role and act as field supervisor to doctorate trainees.
* Engage in continual service improvement within own area.
Team and Working Arrangements
* Work from site with a MDT rehabilitation focus, including in-patient care, ward follow-up and an out-patient clinic for community follow-up, staff wellbeing and family support.
* Collaborate with the NSCHCT and UHNM teams to support psychology services across critical care and health settings.
Experience and Qualifications
* Experience of leading services and interest in working with adults with physical health problems in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Expertise in working psychologically within physical health care settings and a wider physical health psychology context.
* Leadership experience with clinical assessment, interventions, risk assessment/management, and managing caseloads, with the ability to deliver individual and group psychology programs in a timely and professional manner.
