Job Title: Scientist (Renal Bioscience, Early CVRM) – Full time, Onsite
Location: Cambridge, UK
Introduction to the Role:
In Renal Bioscience, we discover novel medicines for kidney disease. We seek a well-organized, highly productive bench scientist who can independently design and execute experiments and effectively analyze, interpret, and present data.
As a Scientist in Early CVRM Renal at AstraZeneca, you’ll join a vibrant team advancing new treatment options for renal disease. In the in vitro group, you will develop and deploy cellular models to drive targets and projects, collaborating with experts across functions and supporting project teams.
Accountabilities:
1. Generate decision-enabling data to advance renal programs from target validation through lead optimization, directly contributing to AZ’s mission to transform CKD outcomes.
2. Plan and execute studies independently while collaborating in cross-functional teams.
3. Elucidate mechanism of action via pathway modulation, target engagement, and biomarker readouts relevant to renal injury.
4. Design studies with appropriate controls, replication, and statistics; ensure data integrity, traceability, and compliance with ELN and SOPs.
5. Communicate findings clearly in internal and external forums.
6. Be proactive, detail-oriented, and accountable; prioritize in a fast-paced environment and contribute constructively to team decisions.
Essential Skills/Experience:
7. BSc or equivalent experience in biological sciences (, bioscience, pharmacology, physiology).
8. 2+ years hands-on human cell culture in 2D/3D systems, including assay development and troubleshooting.
9. Proficiency in qPCR, Western blot, and fluorescence imaging with evidence of high-quality, reproducible data.
10. Experience planning experiments, maintaining ELNs, and performing basic statistical analyses.
11. Experience in pharma/biotech or translational academic labs.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
12. Understanding of renal physiology and pathophysiology
Why AstraZeneca?
Here, curious minds come together in an inclusive environment where every voice can shape the science and the strategy. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with bench biologists, data scientists, clinicians, and external collaborators to unlock new insights, fuse data with experimentation, and push boundaries in disease biology. With the tools, resources, and pace of a leading research engine, you will learn continuously, take smart risks, and see your ideas move from lab benches to studies that change patients’ live
