Description
The Design Engineer will be required to work within an ISO 9001 environment and carry out all aspects of design for manufacture of the company's mechanical products.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
1. Work to ISO 9001 standards related to product design project work and order processing.
2. Utilize the company’s 3D CAD systems (NX, Inventor, AutoCAD) to their maximum capability.
3. Design for manufacture and assembly protocols. Produce 3D part models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings to current standards.
4. Provide calculations for performance and safety considerations, including FEA and FMEA analysis.
5. Manage new product development and existing product projects, including investigation work, layout production, design improvements, and part rationalization.
6. Apply company Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) processes for cost-effective solutions.
7. Produce detailed material specifications, IOM manuals, and technical reports.
8. Create and update Bills of Material.
9. Identify and lead continuous improvement activities, including team kaizen events.
10. Develop productive working relationships within the company.
11. Identify knowledge gaps and undertake activities to develop skills and understanding.
12. Promote company values: Respect, Professionalism, Honesty, Fairness, Responsibility, and Diversity.
13. Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
14. Perform other departmental tasks as assigned, including practical work or visits to suppliers and customers in the UK and abroad.
Skills And Experience Requirements
1. Minimum 5 years of related mechanical design experience within a 3D CAD environment.
2. Experience with FEA software preferred.
3. Experience related to rotating machinery preferred.
4. Ability to work flexibly to meet deadlines and targets.
5. Positive team player with a dynamic attitude.
Minimum Education Requirements
1. Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
2. Higher National Certificate/Diploma with industrial experience.
3. Registered IEng preferred but not essential.
4. Experience with 3D CAD software is essential.
