Overview
This is a fixed-term Consultant Rheumatologist post at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust covering long-term sickness. You will join a supportive and dynamic team consisting of 4 Consultants (including the new appointee), 1 Specialist Registrar, 1 Trust Grade Registrar, 1 GP trainee/SHO, 1 Foundation Year 1 doctor (shared with Dermatology), and 4 Rheumatology Nurse Specialists (3 FTE).
Department
The department is part of a Clinical Business Unit that includes Cardiology, Respiratory, Renal, Neurology, Dermatology and Rheumatology. It sees approximately 7,000 patients annually (1,500 new and 5,500 follow ups). Clinics are held at KGH and at community sites.
Clinical Duties
Provide outpatient clinics across KGH main site, Corby, Wellingborough and Nene Park, including travel time. The role includes all typical duties of a UK Rheumatology Department and the provision of biological infusions at the ambulatory care unit.
On-call
No on-call commitments.
Workload
Review referrals within one working day. Run five clinics per week, including urgent HOT clinics. New patient services that enhance experience and flow are welcomed.
Teaching
Active teaching programme with weekly grand rounds, four annual academic half days, and contribution to teaching University of Leicester medical students.
IT & Facilities
Dedicated reception, clinical and office space with secretarial and specialist nurse support. Computerised administration, pathology access, and PACS radiology system with high resolution screens are available.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold MB ChB, MRCP (UK) (or equivalent) and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Rheumatology or eligible within six months. Applications from those seeking flexible or part-time working are welcomed. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, remaining calm under pressure, is essential.
Additional Information
Depending on service needs, you may be required to work across both Kettering and Northampton hospital sites as part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) Group Model.
