JOB DESCRIPTION
Fort Hill Integrated College is proud of its academic reputation.As such, the Curriculum Leader occupies a pivotal and highly-valued place in the life of the school.
They are responsible to the Principal for:
1. Providing strategic direction and leadership;
2. Supporting the successful teaching of their subject and its contribution to the educational aims of the school in ways that will inspire students;
3. The provision of leadership to colleagues under their management, playing a significant role in their review and professional development;
4. The efficient administration of the curricular area’s resources, facilities and budget;
5. The effective representation of the curricular area both within and beyond the school.
In the carrying out (and delegation throughout the curricular area as appropriate) of the following detailed responsibilities and duties arising from the above, Curriculum Leaders will work closely with the Senior Teacher (Curriculum) as their line-manager and can expect their full support.
Curriculum Leaders are expected to be fully conversant with all school policies and to play their part in promoting good conduct among students within their own curricular specialism and throughout the school.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Providing Strategic Direction and Leadership - The curriculum leader provides strategic direction and leadership to the curriculum team
2. Supporting Teaching and Learning - The Curriculum Leader is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of their subject’s contribution to the education of Fort Hill’s students.
3. Staff Management - The Curriculum Leader has responsibility for the management of members of their team in their academic role and shares responsibility for their work in the school as a whole, their welfare and their professional development.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
The Curriculum Leader is responsible for;
6. The provision, within the agreed budget, and management of the curriculum area’s resources;
7. Managing the subject teaching area and keeping under review its use of space, liaising with the Principal to ensure that appropriate maintenance is carried out as required;
8. Ensuring that all teachers are adequately resourced with books, materials and other equipment deemed necessary to carry out their teaching duties effectively; order books, stationery etc. using the allocated budget;
9. The provision of books and other material to be issued to students and the maintenance of an inventory to ensure the return of texts (where appropriate) at the end of an academic year of Key Stage;
10. The maintenance of an equipment inventory;
11. Implementing the procedures which are associated within the remit of the curricular area’s public examination entries, including managing any internal assessments which may form part of these, and, in particular, maintaining a formal document setting out how these will be conducted;
12. Co-ordinating and ensuring the appropriateness and validity of the curricular area’s contribution to UCAS and other references.
5. Representing the Curricular Area - The Curriculum Leader represents the area under their remit inside and outside the school.
The Description of Responsibility is intended as a guideline as to the main aspects of the post.
These may be amended by the Principal to reflect the changing needs of the school and will be open for re-negotiation as demands dictate.
Responsibilities are not listed in order of importance as all are considered to be equally important aspects of the post.
It would be essential that the successful candidate promotes the highest standards of professionalism in all that they undertake.
All staff will carry out a range of professional duties required by the Board of Governors under the direction of the Principal and be expected to work as a team within the agreed Conditions of Service for Teachers.
Where possible any appropriate inset training will be provided.
As with all management posts a degree of non-teaching time is given if possible.This is a token gesture. The successful applicant must appreciate that this additional time will not be sufficient to successfully execute the responsibilities of the position.
