The Role
The Senior Technical Manager will play a pivotal leadership role in delivering residential developments across the South West region. Reporting to the Technical Director, responsibilities include managing design and technical delivery from land acquisition to site completion, ensuring buildability, compliance, and design quality. The role involves leading the regional technical team, managing external consultants, and collaborating with internal departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to standard.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
* Lead and manage the regional technical team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
* Oversee resourcing, workflow, and performance within the department.
* Set objectives, conduct appraisals, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Technical Delivery & Design Management
* Oversee technical delivery from land viability to construction handover.
* Manage design processes, including architectural, engineering, and infrastructure solutions.
* Ensure coordination between disciplines for practical, cost-effective solutions.
* Drive programme adherence and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Land & Planning Support
* Provide technical input into land appraisals and feasibility studies.
* Support planning submissions with technical packs.
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
* Manage external consultants, ensuring value and timely delivery.
* Build relationships with statutory bodies, local authorities, and utility providers.
Health, Safety, Quality & Sustainability
* Ensure designs promote safe construction and operation.
* Promote sustainability and environmental compliance.
Strategic & Commercial Awareness
* Contribute to regional business strategies and budgets.
* Identify and mitigate project risks.
* Introduce innovations and best practices in technical solutions.
Skills and Qualifications
* Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or similar (RIBA, MICE, CIOB, or equivalent).
* Significant experience in a senior technical or design management role within residential housebuilding.
* Proven leadership of multi-site technical teams.
* In-depth knowledge of planning legislation, building regulations, and technical standards.
* Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
