Astroscale UK & Europe are seeking an outstanding AWS Engineer / AWS System Administrator to join our excellent Global IT & Security team. Ideally you would have come from a system administration background with DevOps experience and understand the principles of the DevOps life cycle. You should be an experienced Linux Administrator with knowledge of Windows Server Administration, domain joining Linux/Windows machines, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) / Active Directory functions, and automation experience with Ansible/Terraform.
While part of the Global IT & Security team, you will work closely with our engineering teams to understand their requirements and deliver technical solutions that are robust and secure.
Responsibilities
* Configuration, management and maintenance of our growing AWS estate.
* Support existing projects using AWS, deploy new Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), Identity Access Management (IAM), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), network configurations and storage.
* Automation and configuration as code using tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
* Installation and configuration of virtual machines, including Linux and Windows.
* Proactive maintenance and refinement of the estate and ongoing support.
* Contribution to cost management and security patching of the environments.
* Support the broader team at times, including administration of on‑premises servers, SaaS and networking solutions.
* Backup and disaster recovery testing.
Essential Skills
* At least 5 years of commercial experience managing estates with Linux and Windows (deployment, software management, reporting).
* Software deployment and configuration management/automation of Linux and Windows (scripting, group policy, Ansible, etc.).
* AWS practitioner‑level experience supporting AWS in a live environment.
* Network communications, including VPN.
* Proactive, self‑starting with tenacity and autonomy.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work well independently or within a team.
* Version control, ideally Git.
Desirable Skills
* Experience in QA pipelines, either supporting the pipelines or the infrastructure.
* Experience in Ansible/Terraform.
* Experience supporting Windows and Linux with a solid foundational understanding of the platforms.
* Understanding of IT frameworks and best practices (e.g., ITIL, SCRUM).
* Knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.
* Familiarity with working in the space sector.
