Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
Be part of the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer, responsible for safety, reliability and sustainability of electrical systems and equipment across our portfolio of assets including pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
Responsibilities
* Influence and shape the delivery of services by providing technical engineering leadership and support across the organisation.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards and safety rules for high and low voltage power systems and control systems.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems.
* Hold a national incident response role, within normal or out‑of‑hours as required.
* Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives, supporting a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.

Experience / Skills Required
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Experience with control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Proficiency in testing, isolation and proving dead of high and low voltage electrical systems.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance and tools such as Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
Role‑Specific Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect within 12 months.
