Our client, a prominent public service organisation in the Highway, Traffic, and Public Transport (HTP) sector, is currently seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. \n\nRole Overview\nThe service is seeking an experienced and self-sufficient Senior Traffic Engineer to join the Capital Delivery Team on a contract basis. This role focuses on the design and delivery of LIP-funded infrastructure schemes that support the boroughs' strategic goals around active and sustainable travel.\nYou will be responsible for leading end-to-end delivery of a range of traffic and transport schemes, including cycle infrastructure, bus priority, school streets, 20mph zones, and broader public realm improvements.
The successful candidate will be expected to produce and sign off technical designs, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and support construction and implementation activities.\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead on the design and delivery of LIP-funded sustainable transport and traffic schemes, including:\n\nCycle routes and infrastructure\n\nBus priority and reliability improvements\n\nSchool streets and low traffic neighbourhoods\n\n20mph speed limit/traffic calming schemes\n\nPublic realm and pedestrian access improvements\n\nDevelop designs using AutoCAD, including layout drawings, traffic signs, road markings, and construction details.\n\nSign off design work, ensuring alignment with national and local design standards (e.g., TSRGD, DMRB, Manual for Streets).\n\nPrepare and manage scheme documentation: design reports, risk assessments, consultation plans, cost estimates, and delivery programmes.\n\nCarry out site visits and assessments to inform design development and construction support.\n\nManage contractors and consultants during project implementation.\n\nLiaise with councillors, residents, schools, TfL, and other stakeholders to ensure successful engagement and project delivery.\n\nEnsure all schemes are delivered safely, on time, and within budget in compliance with CDM regulations and corporate procedures
