Workshop Operation Manager

Gatwick Airport

Competitive Salary + Company car or £550 Car Allowance Monthly

Our client is looking for a Strategic Operations Manager to lead and manage the operational teams to work efficiently to achieve a sustainable revenue income to meet the planned targets. Responsible for all preplanning of engineer and workshop resource to ensure all available work has been accounted for and planned accordingly.

You will play a pivotal role in developing technical talent, ensuring smooth workshop operations, and delivering first-class customer service.


Workshop Operation Manager Job Requirement

• Education Required: Higher education or Management training equivalent experience

• Experience Required: Highly desirable if you have experience as a GSE Operations manager in the Aviation industry or equivalent or from a large Automotive Workshop Operations background in HGVS/ Plant or Light vehicles

• ExperiencE with managing a team and working within budgets.

• Thorough understanding of the equipment leasing processes

• Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite skills.

• Ability to provide detailed analysis and action plan, using data to drive performance

• Ability to manage several sites, possibly remotely.


Workshop Operation Manager Key Responsibilities

• Workshop Performance Management

o Lead and manage Workshop Managers to drive performance improvements, repair turnaround times, and operational outcomes.

o Monitor and manage workshop colleague performance in alignment with company standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Resource Planning & Efficiency

o Oversee resource pre-planning and allocation to optimize productivity and workshop output.

o Produce and maintain a weekly engineering schedule detailing tasks, assigned bays, and estimated hours per task.

o Identify and eliminate inefficiencies and waste across workshop operations.

• Compliance & Safety

o Conduct monthly audits to ensure all workshop activities comply with legal, airport license, and workplace safety regulations.

o Ensure all employee licenses, qualifications, and regulatory requirements are current and appropriately documented.

o Manage all Health and Safety practices to maintain a safe working environment.

• Financial & Budget Accountability

o Manage station budgets, providing detailed variance reports and justifications for any deviations.

o Oversee station revenue performance, ensuring alignment with targets and reporting deviations to the Operations Director.

• Customer & Commercial Engagement

o Maintain strong relationships with customers through regular visits and ongoing support.

o Partner with Commercial Managers to deliver exceptional service standards and resolve issues proactively.

o Attend customer meetings and act as the primary contact for all customer-related matters.

• Operational Reporting

o Oversee the preparation and delivery of weekly and monthly performance reports, both internal and customer-facing.

o Audit equipment to ensure it is maintained to the highest standards.

• Procurement & Asset Management

o Participate in the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) procurement process to ensure equipment meets operational and specification requirements.

• Team Leadership & Employee Engagement

o Lead all aspects of station employee engagement and communication, including monthly “Town Hall” meetings.

o Ensure effective performance management with documented feedback and development plans.

o Champion the “Doosan Credo,” promoting a culture of collaboration, learning, and innovation.

• Recruitment & Workforce Planning

o Lead all station recruitment activities in collaboration with HR and external agencies.

o Build and maintain effective internal relationships to optimize cross-departmental collaboration.

• Regulatory Compliance

o Ensure full compliance with airport legislation and company requirements necessary for the operations
