Description Role: Head Football Coach Grade and Salary: Grade 6, £31,236 - £36,636 per annum FTE and working pattern: 1FTE/hours necessary; Matches on Wednesday and Saturday as standard plus additional team matches as required. Training schedule to deliver an effective and comprehensive football scholarship programme Reporting to: Performance Sport Manager Responsible for: Heriot-Watt University Football Club coaching team Purpose of Role This role will deliver all aspects of the Football Scholarship Programme at Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh Campus, as part of Heriot-Watt University Football Club. The programme will provide a high-performance environment to nurture football athletes to success both in their sport and their studies while acting as a key recruitment tool for the University. Key Duties & Responsibilities Programme Delivery & Coaching Lead the delivery of the Football Scholarship Programme, including training for the Men’s first team and oversight of the Women’s first team and Men’s under-20s. Provide one-to-one and small group coaching for male and female scholars, ensuring the volume is appropriate and supports individual development. Manage match day delivery for the Men’s first team in BUCS and East of Scotland competitions, and attend Women’s and under-20s matches where possible. As the lead contact for the “parent” club of Women’s scholars, work collaboratively with their coaches and staff to support programme design to maximise scholar input. Athlete Recruitment Create and deliver a recruitment strategy to recruit football athletes into both Men’s and Women’s programmes. This is to be underpinned by building strong relationships with key University recruitment contacts, clubs, recruitment agencies and other external organisations. Coaching Team Recruit, manage, and develop all paid and volunteer coaching staff, ensuring effective leadership and a collaborative team culture. Club Development & Culture Foster a “one club” culture across Heriot-Watt University Football Club, contributing to the club’s overall health and success. Provide guidance and support to club committee to help them succeed in their roles. Oversee player pathways and trials. Performance Environment & Collaboration Lead the high-performance environment within the scholarship programme that enhances athlete development, working closely with multidisciplinary performance staff. Contribute positively to the wider culture and ethos of Oriam. Operations & Budget Management Prepare all necessary equipment and kit for training and match days, operate within the allocated budget. Income Generation To control the sustainability of the programme, build a plan to bring in additional income streams through alumni or commercial football opportunities. Essential & Desirable Criteria Essential Qualified to UEFA A Licence. At least 5 years of performance football coaching experience. Experience of recruiting and developing athletes. Demonstrable ability or potential to manage, assess and develop coaching staff. Demonstrable ability to communicate in a positive, influential and timely manner across a range of communications. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Competent in the use of relevant IT packages. Demonstrable excellent customer service. Demonstrable ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and pressured environment. Demonstrable professional and proactive approach. Desirable Demonstrable commitment to developing personal and technical skills out with main football qualification pathway.
