Stores Operator – MAT Cover
Location: Barnstone
Contract Type: Fixed‑term (Maternity Cover)
Role Summary
This role is a maternity cover position within the Stores function at Barnstone.
The Stores Operator is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day warehouse and stores operations, ensuring accurate inventory management, coordinating the receipt of materials, and maintaining appropriate stock levels to support business operations.
The role plays a key part in supporting Maintenance and Production teams, while maintaining strong working relationships with suppliers and ensuring all activities are carried out safely, compliantly and efficiently during the MAT cover period.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment
1. Ensure a safe working environment in line with Safe Working Practices (SWP), STOP assessments and company procedures.
2. Lead by example in maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
3. Ensure compliance with COSHH regulations, maintaining an up‑to‑date register, safety data sheets and correct storage, labelling and segregation of hazardous substances.
4. Support HAVS monitoring and reporting requirements.
5. Ensure all waste materials are segregated, handled and removed from site in line with company and environmental regulations.
Stores & Inventory Management
6. Manage daily stores operations, including ordering stock for the works team and maintaining accurate stock levels within SAP.
7. Ensure inventory performance targets, material availability and purchasing savings goals are achieved.
8. Coordinate receipt of incoming materials and verify against purchase orders.
9. Accurately record all goods issued within the inventory system in a timely manner.
10. Support annual stocktakes and report discrepancies as required.
11. Resolve inventory queries, including new stock records, minimum order levels, bin locations, and material amendments.
12. Manage and action obsolete items in line with company procedures.
13. Maintain excellent housekeeping standards, including organisation, labelling, cleanliness and location accuracy.
Commercial & Supplier Management
14. Ensure commercial agreements with suppliers are adhered to and enhanced where possible.
15. Resolve supplier queries relating to routine orders and record issues via supplier performance reporting systems.
16. Match supplier invoices against purchase orders and goods received notes to ensure accurate receipting and on‑time payment.
17. Collate and enter P‑Card / T‑Card information and manage invoicing for the Stores P‑Card.
Operational Support
18. Liaise closely with Maintenance and Production teams to ensure consumables, spares and critical stock items are available.
19. Coordinate plant and equipment hire with site management.
20. Arrange servicing and maintenance of plant spares and equipment.
21. Conduct monthly inspections of first aid and spill kits to ensure compliance and readiness.
22. Order, issue and manage site PPE, including vending machine stock, washing and face‑fit testing requirements.

24. Essential: Administration experience
25. Essential: Strong IT skills (MS Office, SAP)
26. Preferred: Stores / warehouse experience
27. Advantageous: Experience within continuous‑process or heavy industry environments
28. Advantageous: Forklift licence
