Transport / Depot Manager
Location: Leigh (near Wigan)

An established and growing transport and logistics business is seeking an experienced Transport / Depot Manager to take full operational responsibility for a busy depot based in Leigh, near Wigan.
This is a senior, hands-on management role with accountability for day-to-day depot operations, compliance, staff leadership, performance management, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational efficiency, service delivery, and sustainable, profitable growth at site level.
The Role
You will have full responsibility for the management, development, and performance of the depot, ensuring operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, customer service, and cost control.
Key responsibilities include:
Overall management and upkeep of a busy transport depot
Leading, motivating, and developing a small operational team
Driving depot performance against KPIs and service level agreements
Implementing operational improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability
Ensuring full compliance with all transport legislation and regulatory requirements, including:
Drivers' hours
Tachograph regulations
Vehicle maintenance schedules and records
Operator Licence compliance
Protecting and auditing systems to safeguard the company's Operator's Licence
Managing and monitoring budgets and operational costs
Analysing operational and financial data to identify efficiencies (MPG, dead mileage, damage reduction, etc.)
Planning and coordinating training and development for operational staff
Liaising with internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners
Ensuring health & safety and site housekeeping standards are consistently met
Providing regular performance updates and feedback to senior leadership / ownership
Candidate Requirements
Proven experience in a Transport Manager / Depot Manager / Operations Manager role within transport or logistics
Strong working knowledge of transport compliance and legislation
Experience managing budgets and operational performance
Commercially minded with strong business acumen
Confident leader with the ability to motivate, develop, and performance-manage staff
Proactive, solutions-focused, and able to make sound decisions under pressure
Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
CPC holder preferred but not essential
Comfortable analysing and reporting on operational and financial data
Package & Benefits
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 18:00
Holiday: 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays
