Overview
Due to increasing activities and expanding work programme in our Dumfries office, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic professional with a passion for Forestry. We are looking for someone who will complement our dynamic team and be able to contribute using their relevant skills and experience. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of forest and woodland management, woodland creation, estate management, liaison directly with a range of clients & stakeholders, preparation and management of budgets, delivering forest plans as well as supporting others within both the management and harvesting teams. While we are advertising for a Forest Manager, we’d encourage more experienced individuals to apply if they are keen to work for one of the UK’s leading forestry companies.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to forest and woodland management, woodland creation, and estate management.
* Liaise directly with a range of clients and stakeholders.
* Prepare and manage budgets and deliver forest plans.
* Support others within the management and harvesting teams.
* Support the Forest Manager role where appropriate and undertake related tasks.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have demonstrable forestry experience and relevant academic qualifications; there would be opportunities for relevant training across topics for the right candidate. Candidates should have a good working knowledge of the UK forest industry with a good, demonstrable understanding of site planning, working with contractors and site safety management. An interest or experience in alternative silvicultural systems would be welcomed. Candidates will be commercially aware and have a sound knowledge and understanding of the rural sector. Excellent communication and organisation skills are required, together with the ability to identify, analyse and solve problems using own initiative as part of a wider team. The ability to undertake most aspects of the roles and responsibilities of a Forestry Works Manager is important for the Forest Manager role.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a full, valid driving licence. Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or progressing towards attaining chartered status or another similar professional qualification is encouraged. New recruits would be supported to achieve these additional qualifications where appropriate to the role.
