Our client provides high-quality semi-independent supported accommodation for vulnerable young people aged 16–17. Our service promotes independence, emotional resilience, safeguarding, and successful transition into adulthood.

They operate within statutory frameworks including:

Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023

Ofsted Social Care Common Inspection Framework (where applicable)

Role Overview

Job Title: Support Worker – Semi-Independent Accommodation (16–17)

Purpose of the Role

To provide trauma-informed, person-centred support to young people aged 16–17, enabling them to develop practical life skills, emotional resilience, and independence while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

Safeguarding & Protection

*

Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people at all times.

*

Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with local authority procedures.

*

Complete incident reports and risk assessments promptly.

*

Understand risks including CSE, CCE, county lines, exploitation, self-harm and missing episodes.

*

Maintain professional boundaries.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Young Person Support

*

Deliver structured keywork sessions focused on:

*

Budgeting & financial management

*

Cooking & nutrition

*

Tenancy readiness

*

Emotional regulation

*

Education, Employment & Training (EET) engagement

*

Support young people in attending appointments.

*

Encourage positive behaviour and decision-making.

*

Promote community integration and social inclusion.

Care Planning & Documentation

*

Contribute to Placement Plans and Pathway Plans.

*

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and factual case notes.

*

Prepare reports for statutory reviews.

*

Ensure documentation meets regulatory and inspection standards.

*

Use digital recording systems appropriately and securely (GDPR compliant).

Professional Conduct

*

Work collaboratively with social workers, families and external professionals.

*

Attend supervision and team meetings.

*

Complete mandatory training.

*

Uphold equality, diversity and inclusion principles.

*

Follow organisational policies and procedures at all times.

Working Pattern

This role requires flexibility and participation in a rota system to ensure 24/7 support provision.

Shifts may include:

8:00am – 8:00pm (Day Shift), 8:00pm – 8:00am (Waking Night), Weekends, Bank Holidays. Overtime may be required in emergency situations.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 in Children & Young People / Health & Social Care (or working towards).

Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service.

Right to Work in the UK.

Essential Experience

Minimum 12 months experience working with vulnerable young people.

Experience of safeguarding and risk management.

Experience in supported living, residential care or similar settings.

Essential Knowledge

Safeguarding legislation and reporting procedures.

Trauma-informed practice.

Professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Understanding of risks affecting adolescents.

Essential Skills

Strong written report writing skills.

Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly.

Resilience and emotional intelligence.

Ability to work independently, including night shifts.

Good IT literacy.

Desirable

Experience supporting care leavers.

First Aid training.

Prevent & Safeguarding Level 2/3.

Full UK Driving Licence.
