If some of these apply, then this role might be for you. As a Characterisation Engineer, you will provide essential resources and support to AtkinsRéalis' growing Characterisation Team. Depending on capability, knowledge, and experience, you'll join at Assistant or Engineer level, supporting a variety of tasks, such as those listed below, but we'll aim to allow you to work on what energizes you the most.
1. Development and implementation of characterisation strategies. This may include review of characterisation data; production, management, and delivery of survey, sampling or analysis plans; facilitating analysis and review of analytical and modelling data; and determination of waste classification and waste disposal routes.
2. Work across various projects, locations, departments, and clients to solve complex problems with innovative solutions while supporting team development. Work may involve supporting other disciplines in general capacities.
3. Business development tasks such as strategic decision making, governance, and preparing bids and proposals.
4. Ownership of work packages, interfacing with commercial managers, and leading or supporting team members in sharing knowledge and training.

The ideal candidate will have experience in areas such as application of characterisation processes (e.g., DQO) for radioactive and non-radioactive waste, technical report writing, and data processing using industry software like VSP, Microshield, and Mercurad. Knowledge of waste management legislation, experience on nuclear licensed sites, and interpersonal skills are also valued. Flexibility and willingness to travel are important.
