About the role
An opportunity has arisen with the Council seeking to appoint an Environmental Health Officer to the Housing Standards Team. Your focus will be to work as an important member of the team in tackling issues of disrepair and complaints in rented properties across the borough. Carrying out inspections of licensed and unlicensed properties ensuring that the Rented Sector is providing safe and sustainable accommodation.
What you will be doing
Working across the Housing Standards housing functions, you will undertake inspections using the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) to identify disrepair, other non-compliance with local and statutory requirements and breaches of management standards. On occasions you will be required to support the Manager to bring forward legal action against landlords to ensure compliance.
Good communication skills are key, as you will be working with residents and landlords on a regular basis. On occasions you will also work with key partners such as the Police, Fire and Rescue, Immigration, HMRC and others, to ensure residents are safeguarded and afforded safe accommodation.
Some hybrid-working flexibility will be available subject to business demands, you must hold a UK driving license and access to a vehicle are essential.
About you – You will already be in a similar role and :
* Have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or related subject or be able to demonstrate significant experience in Private Sector Housing regulation.
* Have a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience as an EHO
* Be a Corporate Member of the CIEH
* Have a Certificate of Competency in application of the HHSRS regime.
* Have a good knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), and the local authorities regulatory and enforcement powers in relation to HMOs and private sector housing conditions.
* Experience of providing updates and briefing reports to senior officers and executive members.
