Salary: £47,000 – £54,000 per annum
Role Purpose
A leading organisation within the Transport and Rail sector is seeking a Management Accountant to provide high-quality management accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting support across the business. This role will play a key part in supporting leadership and operational teams with accurate financial information, robust controls, and insightful analysis to drive informed decision-making.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted finance partner, working closely with directorates to support financial performance, enhance financial systems, and ensure strong governance across all financial activities. This is a varied role offering exposure to management reporting, business partnering, transactional oversight, cash management, audit support, and system development.
Key Responsibilities for the Role:
Deliver an effective management accounting service, including month-end processes, reporting packs, financial monitoring, and budget analysis.
Support and enhance financial systems, processes, and internal controls.
Provide insightful business partnering to Directorates, helping them understand financial performance and make informed decisions.
Oversee transactional finance processes including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, banking, and reconciliations.
Support cash management, treasury activities, and audit processes, including preparation of the Annual Statement of Accounts.
Prepare high-quality financial information for Boards, Senior Leadership, and external partners.
Work collaboratively across the organisation, contributing to finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
What we are looking for:
A qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
Strong experience in management accounting, ideally within the public sector or a similar environment.
Excellent analytical skills with strong systems knowledge and advanced Excel capability.
A confident communicator able to explain technical financial concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
A collaborative and proactive approach with the ability to build trusted working relationships.
Experience supporting or leading improvements to financial processes, controls, or reporting.
