Bud Flanagan Ambulatory Inpatients (AMBIN) is a highly specialised haemato-oncology transplant day unit delivering inpatient-level treatments within an outpatient setting. We care for patients undergoing supportive therapies, systemic anti-cancer treatments, and cellular therapy administration.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Staff nurse to join our friendly and dedicated team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who demonstrates strong leadership potential and is passionate about delivering exceptional haemato-oncology care. You will:

You will work alongside a highly skilled and motivated multidisciplinary team, including nurses, doctors, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), and education teams.
Main duties of the job
1. To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible
and efficient way, which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift.
2. To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the
different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
3. To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift with the
guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
4. To complete the first level assessment of the patient’s needs to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of the patients with cancer and their families and to develop a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met.
5. To assist with teaching patients in preparation for investigations, treatment and home care
6. To be aware of the side effects of any treatment in progress, and adopt a problem-solving approach to minimise the potentially adverse reactions.
7. Be involved in the direct delivery of skilled specialised nursing care with supervision until competent, e.g. wound dressings, removal of drains, and insertion of urinary catheters.
8. To develop an awareness of the protocols involved for patients undergoing clinical trials.
9. To be knowledgeable of any treatment in progress in the specialty they are working in, and to adopt a problem solving approach to symptom management and minimizing adverse reactions. Once suitably trained and dependent on the clinical area, administer / check cytotoxic drugs, intravenous antibiotics, novel therapies, trial drugs and supportive therapies, including all necessary blood products.

12. Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent) Recognised teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
13. Experience in intravenous drug administration
14. Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
15. Experience in SACT administration
16. Experience in Ambulatory devices
17. Experience in Stem cell transplantation and care of this patient group
Desirable criteria
18. Experience in Clinical Management
19. Evidence of relevant teaching experience
20. Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management
21. Experience in Cellular therapy administration and care of cellular therapy patient group
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
