Job Description
Mechanical Engineer
We’re working with a well-established manufacturing business looking to bring in an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support their production operations. This is a hands-on role, combining day-to-day engineering support with involvement in improvement projects and longer-term site development.
The role:
You’ll be responsible for keeping production lines and associated equipment running efficiently, safely and reliably. Alongside reactive work, there’s a strong focus on preventative maintenance and continuous improvement across the site.
What you’ll be doing:
* Supporting production lines and ancillary equipment across the factory
* Planning and carrying out preventative maintenance
* Identifying and implementing line and process improvements
* Mechanical fault finding, repair and component replacement
* Monitoring line efficiency and downtime, contributing to improvement plans
* Getting involved in CAPEX projects from planning through to implementation
* Setting up, adjusting and running production lines when required
* Supporting quality standards and reducing waste, spoilage and complaints
* Carrying out routine maintenance (oiling, greasing, housekeeping)
* Working on fabrication tasks including welding, turning and milling
* Supporting and mentoring apprentices and line staff
* Liaising with production teams and external suppliers
What they’re looking for:
* Mechanical engineering qualification (essential)
* At least 5 years’ experience in a similar manufacturing environment
* Experience using CAD/SolidWorks
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
* Good understanding of maintenance systems and data
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced production setting

* Safety-focused, with an understanding of hygiene standards in a food/FMCG environment
* Confident communicator, able to work across teams and levels
* Someone who can support change and continuous improvement on site
