SPECIALIST DOCTOR IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE
NHS Grampian has a thrilling opportunity for a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated, Specialist Doctor to join our teams working across the Emergency Departments (ED) of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
We would expect the candidate to integrate into our current established teams serving the Grampian region, stretching from the Cairngorm Mountains to the North Sea oil rigs providing Emergency Medicine service in a modern city and rural setting. This recruitment will increase our Senior tier staffing with an opportunity to be part of a busy tertiary level Major Trauma Centre which serves both adult and paediatric patients.
The successful candidate will not only play a key role in the continuing development of the departments of Emergency Medicine in the region’s acute hospitals, serving a total population of approximately 500,000 with in excess of 100,000 ED attendances per annum, but also help in our endeavour to enhance services for the local populations, through innovation, technology, collaboration and governance, with a cohesive regional leadership.

The post holder will join a substantive multi-disciplinary team and will be well supported working in a modern, friendly and well-equipped hospitals in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital which are affiliated with the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon’s University. Across all sites we have a modern teaching capacity with further educational and conference facilities located in centres available to all successful candidates. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will participate in a regional governance and teaching.
At Aberdeen Royal Infirmarythe Emergency Department is based in the Emergency Care Centre (ECC), a modern purpose-designed facility to support integrated Unscheduled Care Service and Emergency Medicine. It is the recognised Major Trauma Centre for the North of Scotland. It includes dedicated areas for major and minor presentations, a resuscitation room, dedicated diagnostics, assessment and observation facilities. The ED of Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital is a recognised Paediatric Major Trauma Centre and tertiary referral centre for the highland and island boards. Medical staff work across both emergency departments, which are co-joined, alongside a dedicated paediatric nursing team.
Depending on the Specialist Doctors clinical commitment, we expect successful applicants to work across both the Registrar and Consultant on call Rotas, which will be limited to a maximum of 1: 6 on-call and 1: 5 weekend working combined. We are looking for a Specialist Doctor to work up to a 8 PA contract on a flexible annualised basis. Detailed job plan will be negotiable upon successful application and interview.
We are supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary workforce of Emergency Medical Practitioners; Advanced Nurse Practitioners; Core, Specialty, Foundation and GP trainees as well as Physician Associates; Allied Healthcare Professions and Minor Injuries nurse-led teams.
