Senior/Principal Bridge Engineer – Leeds
A leading civil and structural engineering consultancy is seeking a chartered bridge engineer with at least seven years’ relevant experience for a permanent position in their Leeds office.
About the Role
As a chartered bridge engineer, you will play a key role in delivering bridge and multidisciplinary projects. You will work across superstructure, substructure, and articulation elements, and be involved from early-stage feasibility, surveys, and scheme design to detailed design and project delivery. You will also support business development and client liaison.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and manage bridges of varying materials and forms
* Participate in early-stage scoping, inspections, and optioneering
* Undertake calculations, modelling, and oversee drawing production
* Prepare and review specifications, contract documents, and reports
* Act as signatory for approvals and represent the designer on site
* Liaise with clients, authorities, consultants, and contractors
Essential Requirements:
* Chartered Engineer (ICE, IStructE, or equivalent)
* 7+ years’ post-graduate bridge engineering experience
* Strong technical knowledge of bridge design
* Experience managing projects, finances, and teams
* Contract documentation and implementation experience
* Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
* Proficiency in structural analysis software and relevant UK bridge standards
Desirable:
* Experience in multidisciplinary projects (highways, rail, water, geotechnics)
Projects:
Experience could include bridges across the UK and Ireland, covering major maintenance, new construction, and city infrastructure schemes.
