Job summary

Job Summary

Old School Surgery, and University of West of England Frenchay Campus are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking Salaried GP for a 12 month fixed term maternity cover contract working across both sites.

Our Practice is highly supportive, adopting a close-knit working environment where collaboration and work life balance are prioritised.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will benefit from:

Between 4 and 5 sessions a week.

A competitive salary of £11,662 per session.

A mixture of face to face, telephone and eConsult appointments with protected breaks and administration time built into every session. Capped at 28 patient contacts per day.

Regular follow-up appointment continuity slots, protected, for only you to book.

A team-based and collaborative approach to duty work with multiple GPs working as duty team.

A daily morning overview team meeting + regular Salaried GP meetings and Learning Event meetings.

The support of an Urgent Care Team, including Paramedics, First Contact Physiotherapists + Prescribing Nurse Practitioners.

Chronic disease management is supported by a team of Clinical Pharmacists and Practice Nurses.

An enthusiastic and highly trained Medicines Management Team to deal with repeat prescriptions, medication queries and discharge summaries, which takes significant pressure off GP administrative workload.

Support from a Social Prescribing and Care Co-ordination Teams who assist vulnerable patients and help co-ordinate care.

A team of 5 Mental Health Nurses.

Large, dedicated Care of the Elderly team to make housebound and care home visits.

Excellent opportunities to get involved with teaching and training.

The option of mentorship and monthly meetings for newly qualified GPs via the Newly Qualified GP Fellowship Scheme.

Regular frailty, palliative and safeguarding multi-disciplinary team meetings.

Clinical responsibilities

In accordance with the practice rota, as agreed, the post-holder will be available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing counselling and health education.

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Expectation to complete a mandatory induction.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

The post-holder will be required to visit patients during surgery time in an emergency if clinically indicated.

The post-holder will undertake a fair percentage of enhanced access sessions as allocated on the network rota.


Communication

Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.

Recognise the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating.


Delivering a quality service

Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality, including participating in shared learning across the practice, PCN and wider organisation. Work as part of the team to seek feedback, continually improve the service and contribute to business planning.


Managing information

Use technology, read codes and appropriate software as an aid to planning, implementing and monitoring care, communicating information and reviewing and processing data for audit purposes.


Learning and development

Take responsibility for own learning and performance through continuous professional development, including participating in supervision, acting as a positive role model and assessing own learning needs.

Actively promote the workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice.

Disseminate learning and information gained to other team members in order to share good practice and inform others about current and future developments (e.g. courses and conferences).

Work as part of the team to seek feedback, continually improve the service and contribute to business planning.

Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.
