As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a Joiner for HMP Humber, Brough, East Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.
The post is full-time (39 hours per week) — ongoing temporary with a possible opportunity to go permanent subject to performance.

About your new company
Hays is the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for maintenance trades and support operatives. We are recruiting a Joiner for HMP Humber, Brough, East Yorkshire. This role offers the chance to work within the prison service, with potential for permanent employment.
The working hours are Monday – Thursday, 07:45 am – 4:45 pm, and Friday, 07:45 am – 3:45 pm, including a 1-hour unpaid break. The role involves a 1 in 3 weekend shift pattern and participation in an on-call rota.
Your new role
The main responsibility is to carry out security practices within the prison while subcontractor work is being carried out.
You will be responsible for:
* Carrying out joinery work, including repairing doors, windows, signposts, formwork, and other bespoke timber items.
* Measuring and quoting for works.
* Ordering materials.
* Maintaining stock of building maintenance materials.
* Organizing and planning daily work with the supervisor, recording, and submitting work details on relevant work orders.
* Maintaining the joinery workshop, including machine maintenance, statutory inspections, housekeeping, and cleanliness.
* Supporting local and business zero carbon programs, working towards zero carbon strategies where appropriate.
* Ensuring health and safety standards are achieved across the contract.
Due to the challenging environment, candidates should be level-headed, security-conscious, able to follow procedures, honest, confident in reporting suspicious activity, and able to use their initiative.
What you’ll need to succeed
* Level 3 in Joinery & Carpentry.
* Manual tool handling skills.
* Ladder use experience.
* NVQ level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery preferred; NVQ level 2 considered.
* Flexibility to support various operational activities within the establishment.
* Ability to pass prison security clearance and enhanced DBS check.
* Valid passport or full birth certificate, and photo driving license.
* Proof of National Insurance and recent proof of address (within 3 months).
* At least 3 years of satisfactory references.
