Our Economic Consulting practice provides specialist economic analysis to clients spanning regulators, law firms, the public sector, and some of the UK’s largest energy, utility, andfinancial services firms.
We advise on high profile issues in all major sectors of the economy, andfrequently work with other teams across Grant Thornton. Examples of our projects include:
1. Economic tests to assess whether a group of companies have engaged in a cartel and the damages that arose from the overcharge.
2. Advising a financial institution to respond to an investigation into potential mis-selling.
3. Estimating the economic impact of investments intended to boost productivity.
4. Support to a global telecommunications operator to reshape their regulatory framework.
5. Estimating the economic and social impacts of an airport on a region.
6. Estimating the return on investment to a consumer business from undertaking ESG activities.
7. The use of event studies to estimate shareholder losses in a securities litigation matter in the financial services sector.
8. Assessing value for money and advising on subsidy control matters in relation to Government investment in a major transport initiative.
9. Advising regulators onat what level consumer bills for energy and water should be set.
10. Placements at major UK regulators to support their biggest priorities.

A look into the role
As an Analyst within our Economic Consulting team, you’ll be at the heart of deliveringimpactful strategies and solving real-world challenges for our clients. In this role, you will:
11. Dive into high impact economic projects, collaborating with experts to deliver insights that drive decision making.
12. Conduct rigorous economic analysis, blending research, data analysis and economic theory to write robust and compelling reports for our clients.
13. Design economicand econometric models that tackle complex client needs with precision and creativity.
14. Identify and source data that helps to lay the foundation for robust, evidence-based solutions.
15. Support the smooth running of our practice by supporting key areas such as people (supporting recruitment, planning team socials), risk (safeguarding our brand and ensuring quality), finance and resourcing (coordinating billing, setting team meeting agendas), and marketing (designing webpages, crafting insight pieces).

Knowing you’re right for us
Joining us as an Economic Consulting Analyst, the minimum criteria you’ll need is an MSc which will have covered a minimum of 50% in economics. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.
17. Excellent written and oral verbal communication skills
18. Experience in using Microsoft Office
19. Experience of conducting economic analysis in STATA ,R or Python
