The role
This is an excellent opportunity to join our busy commercial team as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, working throughout the north west initially on our new build development and refurbishment work streams.
Your role will be to assist the site team in managing all commercial aspects of the project ensuring all commercial procedures are met. In doing this you will be assisting the site team maintain and control the safety, financial and productivity aspects of the project.
You will also be assisting the Quantity Surveyor in ensuring the timely procurement and payment of subcontractors and suppliers, contract reviews and negotiations, issuing instructions to contractors and producing reports for review with the Head of Commercial.
You will be attending Liverpool John Moores University one day a week throughout your apprenticeship programme, you must meet the minimum entry requirements and secure a place on the course. The other 4 days a week you will have the opportunity to work in a mixture of departments ensuring exposure to Health and Safety, Planning, commercial and technical areas of the business.
This will predominantly be in the office and you will have opportunities to attend site visits and be expected to measure progress and materials on site. Once qualified you have the opportunity to secure the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor with excellent prospects to progress into a Quantity Surveyor role and beyond. There are also many other routes to progress within the business depending on the individual’s skill set.
The right fit
* You must meet the minimum entry requirements and gain acceptance onto the LJMU BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship programme as detailed below.
* Outstanding communication skills.
* Ability to build effective relationships.
* Comfortable to work towards obtaining First Aid at Works certificate.
* Comfortable to work towards obtaining CSCS Card.
LJMU Course Entry Requirements
Prior to starting the programme applicants must have obtained Grade C or Grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification below:
* Key Skills Level 2 in English/Maths
* NVQ Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English Writing and or Reading
* Skills for Life Level 2 in Numeracy/English
* Higher Diploma in Maths/English
* Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths/English
* Northern Ireland Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number
* Wales Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number
A-Levels
* Minimum number of A Levels required: 2
* Is general studies acceptable? Yes
* Average A Level offer: BBC
* Are AS level awards acceptable? Acceptable only when combined with other qualifications
* Maximum AS Level points accepted: 20
