We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Stores Operative to join their operational team based in Longstanton. This role is a key position within the yard and warehouse function, supporting the efficient control, storage, and movement of materials while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.The successful candidate will play an essential role in ensuring stock integrity, yard organisation, and accurate record-keeping, contributing directly to operational efficiency.Key ResponsibilitiesUnload incoming vehicles, checking materials against delivery documentation and storing items in accordance with agreed proceduresLoad outbound vehicles, ensuring materials match relevant documentationAccurately record all stock movements using stock control software and maintain associated documentationConduct periodic stock counts and assist with inventory controlRecord the issue and receipt of plant equipment and liaise with the Plant team as requiredMonitor and prevent unauthorised removal of materials or plant from the yardMaintain yard security and report any unauthorised accessDispose of yard waste in line with company policyEnsure all materials are stored safely, securely, and in good conditionProactively suggest improvements to storage processes to enhance efficiency, prevent damage, and support health and safetyMaintain awareness of utility shut-off points and fire prevention/detection equipment; operate in line with company proceduresCollaborate with colleagues to support wider company objectivesReport stock discrepancies or unusual stock levels to the Procurement teamKey Skills & ExperienceConscientious and capable of working with minimal supervisionStrong attention to detail and commitment to following established processesAbility to identify opportunities for process improvementProactive and supportive approach when assisting authorised yard usersHealth, Safety, and Environmentally consciousPhysically fit and capable of performing manual handling tasksBasic computer literacy and confidence using stock control systemsKnowledge of fibre optic and telecommunications materials (desirable but not essential)Core CompetenciesTeam player with a flexible approachConfident handling challenging situations professionallyStrong relationship-building skillsCritical thinking and sound decision-making abilityEffective time managementHigh level of accuracy and attention to detailReliable, punctual, and respectfulWillingness to work occasional Saturdays and support operations at additional stock locations when requiredQualifications & RequirementsTelehandler and/or forklift operator certification (desirable)Full UK Category B driving licenceThis is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and reliable individual to join a well-established operation and contribute to maintaining high standards across yard and warehouse activities.We endeavour to reply to every candidate, every time but if you haven't heard back within 10 days, please understand that you have unfortunately been unsuccessful for this position, or the position has been filled.
