Saffron Health Partnership is looking to recruit a Salaried GPto join our friendly, committed and hard-working team.
The Salaried GP role is an important part of the practice's multidisciplinaryclinical team, as well as the wider staff team. The clinical team is currently composed of 7 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, a NursePractitioner, Emergency Care Practitioners (Paramedics), Practice Nurses, HCAs,a Phlebotomist and Pharmacy Technicians.
Working alongside the practiceclinicians are clinicians from Sandhills Primary Care Network, of which thepractice is a member. These include Pharmacists, an additional PharmacyTechnician, First Contact Practitioners, a Care Co-ordinator, a Mental HealthNurse Practitioner and an additional GP.
Main duties of the job

To support 7 GP Partners in managing a busy andinteresting clinical caseload. The appointee will have the opportunity to takepart or lead on key disease areas, including monitoring trends in treatment,staff training and prescribing. There will also be opportunities to assist indeveloping appropriate healthcare services and health promotion campaigns. We are a GMS Practice.
About us

We are a long-established practice with approximately 22,000patients. Our team comprises of 7 GP Partners supported by 55 clinical and non-clinical staff.
Together we serve patients across Biggleswade, Sandy, Langford and the surrounding areas.
The practice is also a member of Sandhills Primary CareNetwork with which it has a positive and collaborative working relationship.
Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities
In accordance with the practice rotas, as agreed, the postholder willmake themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging,fair share of on-call duties, visiting patients at home (occasional), checkingand signing repeat prescriptions, as well as dealing with queries, patient testresults, referral letters, and paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presentingproblems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workerswithin the practice.
Recording clear and accurate consultation notes in SystmOne (thepractice's clinical system), to agreed standards.
Collecting data for audit purposes and contributing to practice audits,as required.
Compiling and issuing electronically generated acute and repeatprescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines
In general, the postholder will be expected to undertake all the normalduties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Quality
The postholder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, andwill:
Alert other team members to Clinical Governance issues, quality andrisk, and participate in Significant Event Analysis reviews.
Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, eitherdirectly or under supervision.
Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own andwider practice team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve andenhance the practice teams performance.
Work effectively with individuals from external agencies to meet patientneeds.
Effectively manage own time, workload and resources as well ascontributing to the overall teamwork of the practice putting the needs of thepractice first.
Prescribe safely and effectively, conforming toNICE guidance, GoodPrescribing Practice as defined by British National Formulary (BNF) guidancefrom Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain on safe and secure handlingof medicine, Controlled Drugs legislation, shared protocols agreed between theICB and other NHS providers, locally specified Patient Group Directions andpractice prescribing protocols. In addition, the postholder will be expected tooperate safe management and regular review for all patients receiving repeatprescriptions.
Adhere to the practice's referral process, such as ensuring thatadequate information is given to the service to which the patient has beenreferred to allow for proper assessment to be made by the service.
Participate, where necessary, in the complaints handling procedure toallow for a proper investigation and appropriate follow up action in the eventof a complaint being made about any aspect of the service provided.
Other responsibilities
Awareness of and compliance with practice policies, protocols andguidelines, for example prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, healthand safety and QoF work.
A commitment to continuing professional development and audit to ensureevidence-based best practice.
Contributing to individual case discussions at clinical meetings and aswell as bringing examples of cases for group discussion.
Participating in the organisational development of the practice bycontributing to the development of ideas, strategies and policies which willpromote efficiency and staff wellbeing.
Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting withinthe practice.
Attending training, practice meetings and other events, as necessary.

When seeking treatment, patients entrust us with or allow us to gathersensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do soin confidence and have the right to expect that practice staff will respecttheir privacy and act appropriately.
In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, thepostholder will have access to confidential information relating to patientsand their carers. They may also have access to information relating to thepractice business. All such information from any source is to be regarded asstrictly confidential.
Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcareworkers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorisedpersons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating toconfidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
Health & Safety
The postholder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own andothers health, safety and personal security laid out in the practice Health& Safety Policy, including:
Using personal security systems within the workplace according topractice guidelines.
Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking suchactivities in a way that mitigates those risks.
Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
Using appropriate infection control procedures and maintaining workareas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

The postholder is expected to take responsibility for own development,learning and performance, including demonstrating skills and activities toothers who are undertaking similar work, when relevant.
The postholder is required to participate in the internal annualindividual performance review as well as the compulsory external annual GPAppraisal programme.
Communication
The postholder should recognise the importance of effectivecommunication and will strive to:
Communicate effectively with other team members.
Communicate effectively with patients and carers.
Recognise people's needs for alternative methods of communication andrespond accordingly.

The postholder will be expected to conduct any reasonable activitiesaccording to the needs of the practice at the time. Main duties andresponsibilities will be subject to periodic review and may be amended to meetthe changing needs of the practice. Amendments, if any, will be agreed incollaboration with the postholder.

Qualified General Practitioner on the General Medical Council's GP Register
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
