#Team Crit Care are looking for enthusiastic, motivated sisters/charge nurses to join and lead our dynamic, supportive and innovative team, working in a new state of the art Critical Care Unit. A multi million pound project to expand to 34 beds and refurbish the existing unit has now been completed. This gives us an improved working and patient environment along with facilities and rest areas for relatives/carers.
If you have excellent team working and leadership skills, a post graduate qualification in critical care and have a strong drive to ensure a positive patient and relative experience, then this is the role for you.

Main duties of the job
As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will support the Unit Co-ordinator in the day to day efficient running of the clinical area, by providing strong leadership and direction to the team, monitoring and maintaining standards of care and professional practice. You will be responsible for ensuring the planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet the personalised health and wellbeing care needs of critically ill patients, in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework. You will act as a strong role model and provide development, clinical supervision and advice for other staff and students to support them in reaching their full potential. To ensure the productive operation of the unit, you will ensure the clinical environment is maintained and deemed safe, clean and organised.
You must be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and service users. Shifts involve working a mixture of days and nights.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are a supportive, friendly unit that offers a flexible and comprehensive induction.
Duties to include, but not be limited to:
1. Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
2. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation.
3. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
4. Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.
5. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
6. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
7. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
8. Promote provision of patient education and health promotion.
9. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
10. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
11. To participate in education and training of junior staff.
12. Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
13. Appropriate NMC registration, RN1, RN2 General Nursing Posts
14. Diploma in Nursing
15. Evidence of continuing education or development for more experienced band 5 nurses
16. Critical Care Course (please note: with the credit award this must be 60 credits from 2013, or 40 credits prior to this).
17. NMC recognised mentorship qualification.

21. Willing to expand clinical role eg IV additive, ventilation, LIDCO, EEG monitoring and dialysis
22. Awareness of changes within nursing practice
23. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
24. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
25. Knowledge of ethical issues
26. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery, neurosurgery and trauma
