We’re looking for a motivated and conscientious Health and Safety Adviser to join NHS Highland’s corporate Health and Safety Team, to support the Estates, Facilities and Capital Planning (EFCP) Directorate. This is a full-time internal opportunity ideal for someone seeking to apply their technical knowledge in an environment that involves engineering, infrastructure, and construction risks not typically present in acute or community settings.
The postholder will provide competent, professional advice and support to EFCP services covering topics such as asbestos, water safety, contractor management, building & engineering maintenance, health and safety compliance, domestic services, catering, laundry, portering and logistics etc (not exhaustive list). You’ll deliver and support inspections, audits, data reports, incident investigations, targeted training etc. The role supports the implementation of both the Health and Safety Strategy and directorate - specific improvement plans.
You will be line managed by a Band 7 Senior Health and Safety advisor and supported by the Health and Safety Service Manager. Your workload will cover both proactive and reactive tasks. Most reactive tasks will be coordinated and allocated via a structured weekly task allocation process, ensuring alignment with both Committee, Team and EFCP priorities.
You must hold a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and have at least Certified IOSH membership. Strong communication, influencing and analytical skills are essential, along with experience in risk assessment, audits and training delivery in a safety-critical environment. A driving licence is required.
Informal enquiries are encouraged and should be directed to: Sue Benson, Health and Safety Service Manager; tel: mobile 07977 726955; email: sue.benson@nhs.scot
