Job summary

We are seeking an Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Lead to join the Secure Services Directorate Leadership Team at Langdon Hospital.
The role is dynamic and challenging. As a member of the Secure Services Leadership Team, you will support the Directorate Manager, Clinical Director, Professional Leads and Senior Nurse Managers in providing high quality care to patients by maintaining operational standards and building collaborative relationships with stakeholders within the inpatient service and the wider directorate and organisations.
Main duties
* Provide operational and strategic management plus professional leadership for the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Services, based at Langdon Hospital, ensuring maximum use of resources to deliver intervention for patients and staff.
* Lead the planning, development, delivery and review of Occupational Therapy services within the Secure Directorate; provide professional leadership and management support to Occupational Therapy staff and others in conjunction with team managers and professional leads.
* Work with the Secure Directorate senior management team to promote clinical effectiveness, develop and implement national health initiatives and plan, develop and review services accordingly.
* Lead inpatient workstreams including the Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services (QNFMHS); oversee staff wellbeing offers, TRiM referrals and TRiM Practitioners, and coordinate post-incident debriefs.
* Be involved in inpatient regulatory processes and lead the patient engagement agenda for the Secure Inpatient Service.
Communication and working relationship skills
* Ensure effective communication with the Occupational Therapy team, colleagues and other agencies at all levels.
* Deal with highly complex, emotional and sensitive information from patients, carers, staff and stakeholders using suitable communication tools.
* Establish and participate in communication networks to promote collaborative working and service delivery.
* Demonstrate highly developed written, verbal and presentation skills; relay key messages between the senior management team and professionals within the Secure Directorate, the wider Trust and external agencies.
Analytical and judgemental skills
* Assess and solve highly complex clinical, service delivery, development and governance issues.
* Manage time effectively to respond to competing priorities; reflect and critically appraise performance to drive quality.
Planning and organisational skills
* Participate in strategic and operational planning within the Secure Directorate and contribute to the Trust’s overall planning.
* Work with the senior management team to plan, manage and sustain a workforce within Occupational Therapy and the wider service.
* Ensure participation in Trust Occupational Therapy meetings and organise meetings to plan and sustain service developments and quality improvement.
Responsibilities for patient care, treatment and therapy
* Ensure Occupational Therapy interventions follow best practice, locally agreed pathways and are evidence-based.
* Apply specialist knowledge to meet needs of patients with challenging behaviour and complex conditions.
* Lead relevant service user planning and review meetings; ensure records comply with Trust policy and HP standards.
* Ensure patient voice is heard in therapy interventions and service delivery.
Policy and service development implementation
* Lead projects and initiatives within the Secure Directorate and Trust; implement national policy, guidance and local developments.
* Support continuing professional development of Occupational Therapy staff and coordinate student placements.
* Ensure access to supervision and professional development for staff; implement Trust policies and coordinate TRiM referrals.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy; HCPC registration
* Significant post-qualification practice; leadership/management experience
* Experience of working with individuals with serious mental illness, distress, challenging behaviour and co-morbidity
* Continued professional development and IT skills; management/leadership qualification
Desirable
* Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists; Practice Educator qualification
* Understanding of multi-agency working across health, social care and voluntary sectors; TRiM knowledge
