A number of schools in Somerset are looking to recruit clerks to their governance boards. This paid role, usually part-time, plays an important part in ensuring the effectiveness of the governance board.
The role of the clerk is much more than organising meetings, taking minutes, and recording the discussions and decisions of the board.
A clerk will provide their school governance board with professional advice on governance procedures and compliance of the board.
They will ensure that their board meets their administrative and procedural requirements thereby allowing the board time for efficient and effective discussion and decision making and fulfilling their statutory obligations to the young people in their setting.
Meetings generally take place in the late afternoon or early evening. Clerking roles generally involve around 4 hours work per week although this may vary depending on the school and any additional responsibilities that are required for the post.
