Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialist Sonographers to join our busy, friendly imaging department. You will be part of a small team of sonographers, who are well respected and committed to providing a high standard of examinations. If you are currently in sonography training position and due to complete by September 2026, please apply as well.
The ultrasound department performs routine and complex obstetric and gynaecological scans to support antenatal and gynaecology outpatients, gynaecology oncology, and Post Menopausal Bleeding clinics. All Sonographers scan and report autonomously and are supported for further development and training.
In addition we have a self contained Early pregnancy Unit with all day ultrasound cover.
You will work closely with and be supported by the onsite Regional Fetal Medicine team who provide care to women and their families undergoing high risk or problematic pregnancies requiring specialist care and expertise. You will also work closely and be supported by our lead Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who have a specialised interest in ultrasound.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
* Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound
* Appropriate Professional Registration e.g. HCPC, RCT or NMC Registration
* Appropriate relevant Degree or equivalent.
* Appropriate post qualification experience in an ultrasound department
* Relevant clinical courses
* Completed the preceptorship and capability framework for sonographers’
* Quality assurance supervision and practice
* Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance including H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling
* Experience of teaching, mentoring and supporting colleagues training and development.
* Be able to interpret clinician’s requirements, to recognise the urgency of ultrasound requests, prioritise requests and determine the appropriate scanning technique, ensuring that scans are performed in accordance with best practice and research‑based evidence.
* To interpret scans and provide a comprehensive, independent, diagnostic report on the patient’s condition and make the appropriate diagnosis.
* Leadership or management course or qualification or equivalent experience.
* To be able to respond appropriately to distressed patients and staff and distressing circumstances e.g. suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
