About the role
As a Mortgage Underwriter, you’ll be responsible for making excellent lending decisions that align with our risk policy for new mortgages.
Day to day, you’ll own and manage mortgage applications from receipt to the release of funds, carry out risk assessments, challenge lending decisions using your knowledge and experience, build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and manage your work according to service standards.
All of this is underpinned by an appreciation of the customer. You’ll deliver fair outcomes, provide excellent service, and tailor your approach to customer needs. You’ll be the first line of defense for any complaints and will communicate lending decisions clearly and effectively to customers.
This is an exciting role where you can balance the needs of customers, intermediaries, and responsible lending daily.
Please Note: This role is hybrid; however, hybrid working can only be offered once fully competent in the role. You will then be expected to be in the office up to 2 days a week. Please be aware that your full training period will require full-time attendance in the office.
About you
Ideally, you have experience as a Mortgage Underwriter, but don’t be dissuaded from applying if not. If you have underwriting experience in other financial products, extensive knowledge of mortgages, or experience in customer service, we’d love to hear from you.
Alongside this, you’ll need:
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders
* Analytical and methodical thinking, with curiosity and the ability to identify additional information needs
* Strong decision-making skills, with an aptitude for making fair and consistent lending decisions
