Who You Are You are educated to degree-level or have equivalent experience in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, or building conservation. You bring expertise in providing conservation advice on various development proposals, including residential/commercial schemes, major or strategic development proposals, historic building developments, and projects within Conservation Areas. You have experience working in politically sensitive environments, delivering high-quality briefings and presentations to senior officers, elected members, key stakeholders, and the public. You can work cooperatively with colleagues and stakeholders and excel in leading negotiations at the pre-application stage of the planning process. You possess a thorough knowledge of current legislation, best practices, and Government guidance related to urban design and historic building matters. You are skilled in prioritizing workloads, managing projects with initiative and creativity, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. What the Job Involves Based in Sutton’s Planning Department, this role requires you to provide expert conservation and heritage advice to the Development Management service and the Strategic Planning Team for key redevelopment sites in Sutton Town Centre, with particular heritage considerations. You will primarily provide specialist advice on development proposals, including significant redevelopment sites with conservation pressures, and coordinate with Historic England. You're responsible for offering heritage advice during the review of Sutton’s Local Plan, assessing potential changes to the Sutton Town Centre Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan, and ensuring a smooth Development Management process by maintaining constructive relationships with Historic England.
