Job Description

A rare opportunity to combine highways technical leadership with work winning, giving you true end‑to‑end exposure across major infrastructure projects. You’ll play a key role in shaping and securing new opportunities from nationally significant programmes and contractor‑led design and build schemes to local authority placemaking projects.

Joining our Northwest Roads team as an Associate, based across Manchester or Liverpool, you’ll lead emerging opportunities across key accounts, driving capture planning and bids from early identification through to submission. You’ll work closely with experienced, multi‑disciplinary teams, using your network and insight to convert a strong pipeline into secured work.

Alongside this, you’ll lead the technical delivery of highways consultancy services, supporting clients through every stage of the project lifecycle from feasibility and concept design through to construction in a highly client‑facing role.

You Will

* Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams on infrastructure projects and major bids, shaping solutions that make a real impact.
* Build trusted client relationships, providing clear, confident advice and managing expectations throughout the pursuit and delivery lifecycle.
* Develop compelling bid strategies, win themes and high‑quality written responses that clearly articulate why WSP is the right partner.
* Drive effective capture planning to maintain momentum and create customer‑focused, differentiated solutions.
* Research markets, clients and competitors to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
* Facilitate storyboards, reviews and "one‑voice" editing to ensure clear, persuasive and high‑scoring submissions.
* Support a smooth transition from successful bid into live project delivery, ensuring commercial clarity and alignment.
* Lead multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high‑quality infrastructure designs across projects of varying scale and complexity.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, environmental legislation and internal quality standards.

What We Would Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

* Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer with substantial post‑qualification experience in highway design across multiple project stages.
* Sound understanding of key highway design standards and guidance, with experience of technical review and assurance and contract documentation.
* Experience of public and/or private sector procurement, including frameworks, open competitions and design & build projects.
* Practical experience of planning, managing and contributing to bids, applying best‑practice work‑winning approaches.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the credibility and attention to detail to influence and engage clients and stakeholders.
