Shape the future of Healthcare Infrastructure for Scotland's largest NHS Board

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking an exceptional and values-driven Interim Director of Estates and Facilities to join our Corporate Management Team at a pivotal time for our organisation and the communities we serve.

Serving a population of 1.3 million people, with a workforce of over 42,000 staff and an annual budget of £4.65 billion, NHSGGC is the largest NHS Board in Scotland. This executive-level interim opportunity offers a rare chance to shape the environments, infrastructure and essential support services that underpin safe, effective and person-centred care at scale.

The role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Interim Director of Estates and Facilities will provide strategic and operational leadership across a highly complex and diverse portfolio.

This Includes

Property and asset management across an extensive estate
Sustainability and energy strategy, supporting Scotland's net-zero ambitions
Fire safety, security and statutory compliance
Decontamination, waste and environmental management
Catering, portering, logistics and other core facilities services

You will lead over 3,300 staff and manage an annual revenue budget of approximately £339 million. You will ensure that services are safe, resilient, efficient and financially sustainable, fully aligned to NHSGGC's long-term clinical and organisational priorities.

As a member of the Corporate Management Team, you will contribute to Board-level strategy, governance and decision-making, ensuring that infrastructure and facilities considerations are embedded in service redesign, capital investment and transformation programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership for Estates and Facilities services across NHSGGC.
Ensure statutory compliance and robust risk management across all estates and facilities functions.
Drive sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental performance in line with national policy and climate commitments.
Deliver high-quality, patient-centred support services that enhance patient experience and staff wellbeing.
Provide strong financial stewardship, ensuring best value within significant and complex budgets.
Build effective partnerships with clinical leaders, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Executive and Non-Executive Directors, trade union colleagues and external stakeholders.
Represent NHSGGC regionally and nationally, influencing infrastructure and sustainability strategy across NHS Scotland.

About You

You will be a credible and experienced senior leader, with substantial experience operating at executive or Board level within the NHS or a similarly complex, asset-intensive organisation.

You Will Bring

Experience leading multidisciplinary estates and facilities services at scale.
Strong financial and commercial acumen, with experience managing substantial revenue and capital budgets.
Deep understanding of governance, statutory compliance, risk management and public sector accountability.
Political awareness and confidence operating in complex stakeholder environments.
The ability to balance competing priorities while keeping patients, staff and communities at the heart of decision-making.

Above all, you will be a compassionate and values-led leader who embodies NHS Scotland values, promotes equality and inclusion, and is committed to reducing inequalities and advancing sustainability.

Why join NHSGGC?

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact shaping the physical and operational foundations of healthcare delivery today, while building resilient, future-ready services for generations to come.

You will influence strategy at the highest level of Scotland's largest NHS Board and contribute directly to the quality, safety and sustainability of care for over a million people.
