Job description Residential Support Worker Pay Rate: £13 per hour £13.75 per hour for qualified staff with level 3 Sleep In Allowance (£55.00) Responsible To: Senior Residential Childcare Worker / Deputy Homes Manager Manager: Registered Manager Main Purpose of the Role: The Residential Care Worker (RCW) is responsible for the ensuring that the physical, intellectual, emotional, psychological and social needs of our children are met consistently to a high standard. The RCW will comply fully with all statutory and regulatory guidance and FSS Policies, Procedures and Practices and, under the direction of the management team, deliver therapeutic care giving. The RCW will work on a shift pattern including days, evenings, waking nights (when/if required), weekends, bank holidays, sleeping-in duties and, subject to risk assessment, lone working. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Leadership: Implement FSSs policies and procedures regarding Safeguarding and Child Protection. Ensure that FSSs approach to childcare is embedded into practice. Model professional conduct in all aspects of the role. Work in partnership with social workers, education, police, health, probation, and all other professionals in line with childrens needs and interests. Care for Children: Demonstrably improve the lives of children and young people in our care. Model relationship-based care giving in all interactions with children and young people. Establish caring, secure relationships with children that allow them to feel safe, develop trust in adults and confidence in themselves. Implement FSS admission protocols to ensure that children feel welcomed and fully informed about what is to be expected of them and what they can expect from us. Work closely with children and young people both individually and when required, as a group, to ascertain their wishes and feelings about all aspects of their welfare; record and act upon this in their interest. Work closely with children and young people both individually and when required, as a group, to fulfill all the tasks outlined in their care plans in line with agreed timescales. Ensure the timely completion of all records, assessments and reports in line with FSS policies, procedures, and practices. Ensure that all records are completed and updated in a timely manner. Ensure that care plans, risk assessments for the young people are maintained and updated regularly. Engage children and young people in the role of key worker as assigned by the Deputy and Registered Manager. Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as an appropriate role model. Meet consistently the health needs of children and young people by ensuring that they are registered with the appropriate health (physical and mental health) services and GP. Ensure that the children are supported and enabled to access health services in line with their needs and plans. Meet consistently children and young peoples education and training needs ensuring that their needs are assessed and reviewed in a timely way and children are within provisions that best meet their needs. Engage children and young people in a range of developmentally appropriate activities in which they can build competence, confidence in themselves and trust in adults. Model and promote respect for the care giving environment, taking a lead in the practical tasks required to look after a home, e.g., cooking, cleaning, gardening etc. Ensure that all children and young people have access to advocacy and childrens rights services. Attend all meetings as required to support children and young people and/or advocate for them to ensure that their voice is heard and best outcomes achieved. To ensure that all young people in the home are safeguarded, and that all the policies and procedures are implemented and applied to practice. General Responsibilities: To drive company vehicles subject to policies To work on a rota basis according to the needs of young people. To carry out all other reasonable tasks as directed by the Registered Manager and/or the Deputy Manager. To develop systems which ensure the effective allocation of resources through: Ensuring that company vehicles are clean and regularly maintained. Monitoring closely the fabric of the building (including fixtures, amenities, and grounds) and taking remedial action where necessary. To promote the efficient and effective operation of the Home through: Developing in consultation with young people and carers routines in relation to all aspects of childcare. Clarifying expectations in relation to maintaining the Home in a clean and orderly condition Any other duties as directed by the Registered Manager / Deputy Manager. Positive Relationships: To promote the practice of working in partnership with young people, their families, other staff, and other agencies, in order to meet the needs of children and young people. To liaise with the various internal and external multi-disciplinary teams and commissioning authorities to ensure that the care needs of new and existing residents are met. Health and Safety: Implement the Health & Safety policies comply with all Health & Safety requirements. Complete Risk Assessments as required. Ensure that all Health and Safety compliance is completed and up to date. To report any Health and Safety Matters to the manager without delay. Ensure that fire drills and tests are completed in accordance with procedure, recording the necessary data and identifying relevant learning to inform ongoing practice Key Performance Indicators: Responsibilities and Duties Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) To work with Registered Manager and other staff to ensure the smooth running of residential provision to ensure the requirements for all residential children /young people are met throughout a 24 hour period, 7 days a week. Assist the registered manager to develop, monitor and review care plans for all children/young people. Ensure Key working are done. Case files to be up to date. To ensure all children / young peoples health care needs are met. All staff will work within and quality-assure the care delivered against Ofsteds Quality Standards and any additional relevant legislation. Work with Registered Manager to establish a regular quality assurance audit that monitors care service against statutory standards and regulations. Prepare reports for both internal and external agencies, including those required for regulators. Ensure systems, processes and procedures for safe administration of medications are followed. To raise any concerns regarding quality of service to line manager. Make sure all paperwork is always up to date. To ensuring an open culture is created to promote and establish a culture of open, transparent and participatory management/practice delivering excellent care services. Establish effective communication systems with relevant managers to support the dispersed team and in the wider community. Attend training. Attend team meetings Check E-mails daily when on duty Attend handovers. Ensure the required information, recording and reporting processes are in place and adhered to by all staff All care and support plans are in place, available to staff and understood by staff and the specified care, support and medical needs identified are met Prepare reports, participate in and/or facilitate meetings and reviews, both internal and external, for children/young people. Ensure adequate supply of medication is kept in stock, maintained and complete accurate records including MAR sheets, medical notes, and complete medication audits when required Report any concerns and take lead in ensuring all appropriate actions are taken and acted upon appropriately To ensure that Care Services and support are provided in a person-centred way, using person centred approaches that meet the needs of the child/young person and their family/carers Ensure children/young people using the service are included and supported in decision making using the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards To develop and foster positive working relationships and effective communication links with children, young people, families, social workers, advocates and external agencies. Work in partnership with families, local authorities and professional connected with the children and young people. Key working to be done. To promote the safeguarding and welfare of children & young people and ensure any safeguarding concerns are reported through the home established reporting procedure Report to the management team. To maintain confidentiality in line with the organisational policy in relation to staff, children, young people and business sensitive information Ensure that records are stored and held in a manner which is compliant with regulations. Maintain CPD to undertake role Take responsibility for ensuring and proactively updating your mandatory training. To attend training, conferences and seminars to develop knowledge and share best practice across the organisation Notifications and incident management To ensure debriefs are carried out following all incidents. To ensure action plans are developed and carried out following debriefs. To ensure young people plans are monitored and reviewed. Other responsibility and duties. a) From time to time may be asked to help other services within the company. This by be asking to lead on a project, or to step in where staff presents are required. Person Specification: Essential Desirable Qualifications Achieve or Hold the Diploma Level 3 in Children & Young People Workforce, Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent. Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development. Knowledge, Skills & abilities Safeguarding children procedures Direct work skills Knowledge of risk and risk management Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing A good level of IT proficiency including the use of Microsoft packages including Word and Outlook Understanding the needs of EBD children including managing challenging behaviour Excellent organisational skills Ability to be imaginative but practical about childcare Ability to manage time effectively Knowledge of Care Planning and reviewing processes Able and willing to provide cover for children at other homes within reason. Experience Experience of working in a residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour or in setting working with challenging young people (Minimum 1 year) Candidates must be suitable to work with children & young people within a care setting (pre-employment checks) Awareness of safeguarding issues and ability to safeguard the welfare of young people Ability to work under own initiative Ability to take direction and work as part of a team Ability to work in partnership and liaise with other professionals Basic household skills Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours Managing conflict effectively. Residential Childcare Experience Experience of professionals meetings and working contributively with the professional network.
