Job Summary:
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
The GP will be responsible for delivering the full range of primary care services as part of the practice ensuring the highest standards of care for the differing needs of our patientpopulation.
The GP will work closely withthe practices multi-disciplinary team of other GPs, nurses and nonclinicalstaff to provide a high quality and accessible service to patients
Clinical responsibilities:
In accordance with the practicetimetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available toundertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephoneconsultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signingrepeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals andcorrespondence in a timely manner.
Making professional, autonomousdecisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referredfrom other health care workers within the organisation.
Assessing the health care needs ofpatients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screening patients for disease riskfactors and early signs of illness.
In consultation with patients and inline with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plansfor health.
Providing counselling and healtheducation.
Admitting or discharging patients toand from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
Recording clear and contemporaneousconsultation notes to agreed standards.
Compiling and issuingcomputer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-writtenprescriptions whenever possible. EPS4 is now implemented at the Practice).
Prescribing in accordance with thepractice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinicallyappropriate.
In general, the post-holder will be expectedto undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GPworking within primary care.
Complete care plans required for localenhanced services.
Participate in Enhanced Services workrequired within the practice.
Training &Education:
Prepare for and complete the annualexternal appraisal process.
Prepare for and complete the revalidation process.
Undertake training that meets personal,mandatory and practice learning needs including recording of learning,reflection, complaints, information governance etc.
Participate in and contribute tolearning activities such as significant event reviews, clinical audit,protected learning time, video analysis of consultations.
Contribute to delivering teaching fordoctors in training in the practice and other health professionals in training.
Otherresponsibilities with the Practice:
Awareness of and compliance with allrelevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, dataprotection, health and safety.
A commitment to life-long learning andaudit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
Contributing to evaluation/audit andclinical standard setting within the organisation.
Contributing to the development ofcomputer-based patient records.
Contributing to the summarising ofpatient records and accurate Read-Coding of patient data.

Experience
* GP - Person Specification
* Eligible to work in General Practice in the NHS
* Experience as a GP educator.
* Experience of appraisal in practice or other setting.
* Additional clinical skills beyond general practice
* Knowledge & Skills:
* Willing to successfully complete appropriate training for appraisal and remain up to date with the developing GP Appraisal, relicensing and revalidation agenda.
* To deal with sensitive information in a tactful way.
* To be able to demonstrate on-going personal and practice development.
* To have a facilitative approach.
* To discuss difficult areas sensitively and diplomatically with patients.
* Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, face to face and active listening skills.

* Administration skills - organised and efficient in record keeping for timely completion of post appraisal paperwork and claims.
* Should be a car driver with a clean licence and access to a vehicle at all times
