Proposed Salary Range: £64,000 - £96,000 (subject to skills, knowledge, and experience)
Purpose of the Role
Our audiences’ expectations of digital media have shifted dramatically. We are expanding the BBC’s ability to integrate new capabilities such as Commenting, Moderation, Quizzing, Polling and Voting across web, mobile, TV and Smart Speaker platforms. The Senior Architect will develop approaches for standardising experience integration, manage existing portfolio of capabilities, and govern security.

Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
* Contribute to the broader Account & Identity Architecture strategy and drive adoption of Architecture Statements.
* Identify gaps and challenges, design target architecture, and produce detailed designs for solutions.
* Communicate technical requirements and vision to external partners.
* Own architectural decisions, embed oversight, and document choices through ADRs.
* Provide architectural support across the BBC ecosystem, ensuring coherence and managing dependencies.
* Champion patterns, best practices, and evolutionary design approaches for secure, robust, and repeatable solutions.
* Translate business priorities into a clear architecture vision for all stakeholders.
Your Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria
* Proven architecture experience designing high‑volume, near‑real‑time platforms with a focus on resilience, reliability, and security.
* Expertise in AWS (EC2, Lambda), relational and non‑relational databases, and end‑to‑end data lifecycle.
* Familiarity with Java, JavaScript, and Python.
* Understanding of information security issues and mitigation.
* Experience building scalable software solutions.
* Advocate for cost optimisations across internal Cloud environments.
* Collaborate across multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver architectural strategy.
* Excellent communication skills with influence and strategic vision.
* Data‑driven decision making with creative problem‑solving.
* Knowledge of cloud‑native and microservice architectures across domains.
* Evaluate and advocate emerging technologies for business value.
Desired but Not Required
* Personalisation, machine learning, advanced analytics, interactivity, and gamification use cases.
* Agile software delivery at scale with data engineering perspective.
* Behavioural and ethical design awareness for participatory experiences.
* Reliable event‑driven architectures and asynchronous workflows at enterprise scale.
* Domain‑relevant integration experience with external partners.
