General Surgery/A&E Locum Resident Doctor

Contract: Fixed term from August 2026 (6 or 12 month options available).
Hours: Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
Salary: £49,217 – £65,112 per annum (pro rata), plus banding supplement.
Relocation Allowance: Up to £4,000 for a 12‑month post.
Distant Islands Allowance: £2,578 per annum (pro rata).
Based at the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick, this role is ideal for doctors who have recently completed FY2 training and are contemplating a surgical career, or for core surgical trainees awaiting a Specialty Training (StR) position. The position is also attractive for GP trainees or doctors who have completed GP training but wish to gain further surgical and A&E experience. Full GMC registration with a current licence to practice is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* The general surgical unit manages general surgery and orthopaedic trauma cases.
* A significant portion of the post involves seeing and treating surgical patients in A&E.
* Opportunities to attend surgical clinics and theatre are available.
* Night shifts consist of three to four consecutive nights covering surgical and medical A&E as well as ward duties.
