Position: Permanent Lead Powertrain Engineer
Responsibilities:
1. Manage benchmarking processes to industry standards and competitor vehicles.
2. Develop and oversee project timelines with team leaders.
3. Supervise first-release engineers' lists and drawings.
4. Support material and manufacturing process selection.
5. Conduct powertrain-specific design reviews.
6. Act as deputy team leader in their absence.
7. Motivate and lead junior team members, ensuring morale remains high.
8. Make critical decisions and identify training needs.
9. Ensure departmental procedures are followed.
10. Design engine components from concept to production, utilizing 3D CAD and BS 8888 standards.
11. Specify component parameters, including materials, heat treatments, and finishes.
12. Present design solutions during reviews.
13. Release new parts following internal procedures.
14. Collaborate with departments and external suppliers.
15. Maintain and produce engineering lists.
16. Consider manufacturing, duty cycles, strength, corrosion, assembly, cost, and benchmarking in design.
17. Contribute to departmental knowledge development and procedures.
Candidate Profile:
* Hands-on engineering experience.
* Engineering qualification (e.g., BEng Hons 2-1 or higher).
* At least 6+ years in automotive/engineering.
* Pro-E or CREO experience preferred.
* Understanding of Powertrain interactions.
* Knowledge of DFM, DFA, and problem-solving techniques.
* Experience working with supply chains.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes like machining, casting, forging, welding.
