The Role
As an IT Test Engineer, you will join a team that is taking part in a novel programmes building critical deployable IT infrastructure within the Defence environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to operate as part of a core test team within an enterprise scale development environment placing you at the heart of the modernisation of Defence’s deployable IT estate.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Creating test scripts and undertaking test execution when required for critical systems under development
2. Undertaking testing at different testing level across multiple test cycles
3. Delivering outputs such as Technical documentation, trails plans and reports, test plans and developing test scripts working to both time and budget
4. Executing test cases both manual/automation and analyse the results
5. Undertaking formal and informal testing as directed by Test Managers
Essential experience of the IT Test Engineer:
6. Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Tester/Live Service Tester or similar role
7. Experience in performing functional, non-functional and regressions testing of MS windows server products in complex environments
8. The ability to document test procedures, prepare test documentation including test plans, test scripts, evidence collection and defect reporting
9. Previous experience in manual, automation and test management tools – e.g HP Quality Centre, ALM, Jira and Test rails etc.
10. Proven experience in Black Box testing, white box testing, SIT, SAT, UAT and OAT testing
11. Being well versed with the Software Development Life Cycle testing concepts
Essential qualifications for the IT Test Engineer:
12. ISTQB Certified Tester
13. MCSA Microsoft Certified Server Associate or VMware Certified Practitioner (VCP)
14. A Relevant Engineering/IT Degree

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Portsdown Technology Park site.
Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) is one of QinetiQ’s key facilities, focusing on advanced technology development and engineering services. It is dedicated to research and development, ensuring that complex systems are designed, integrated, and tested effectively to meet operational requirements. The facility utilises sophisticated modelling and simulation techniques to analyse and predict performance.
