Transport Manager & Logistics Coordinator
We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to oversee our delivery operations, fleet management, and logistics planning. This role combines strategic transport management with hands-on delivery planning to ensure efficient, cost-effective operations and exceptional service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Management
* Hold and maintain professional transport qualifications (CPC or equivalent)
* Ensure full compliance with transport legislation including drivers' hours, vehicle safety standards, and operator licensing requirements
* Manage and maintain company fleet, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy, compliant with regulations, and properly maintained
* Manage driver scheduling, performance, and development
* Implement and monitor transport policies, procedures, and safety standards
* Control transport budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities
Delivery Planning & Logistics
* Plan and optimise daily delivery routes to maximize efficiency and minimize costs
* Coordinate logistics operations including scheduling, dispatching, and tracking deliveries
* Manage customer delivery expectations and resolve any service issues
* Implement route optimisation software and technology solutions
* Monitor KPIs including on-time delivery rates, fuel efficiency, and cost per delivery
* Liaise with sales team and branch teams to ensure smooth operations
Team Leadership
* Lead, motivate, and develop the transport and logistics team
* Conduct driver briefings, training, and performance reviews
* Ensure proper onboarding and compliance for all drivers
* Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and customer service
Essential Requirements
* Valid Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport or equivalent qualification
* Proven experience in transport management and logistics planning (minimum 3-5 years)
* Strong knowledge of UK/EU transport legislation and compliance requirements
* Experience with route planning and fleet management software
* Full UK driving license
* Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
* Strong communication and leadership abilities
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and transport management systems
Desirable Requirements
* Experience with fleet telematics and GPS tracking systems
* Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS)
* Lean or Six Sigma training
* Experience in builder merchant or multi drop delivery planning
* Budget management experience
Job Details
Shifts between: 7:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. 60-minute unpaid break. Minimum 45 hour contract. Office-based role within a transport team.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From £46,000.00 per year
