Elective Caesarean Section Midwife

Do you have a passion for providing excellent care to women who require an elective caesarean section? If so, we would love you to join our motivated and forward-thinking team.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic midwife to join our highly motivated midwifery team, as part of our Band 6 team responsible for supporting a woman's journey during the elective caesarean section process.

This is an exciting secondment opportunity for those midwives who would like to be involved in shaping the future pathway for our planned elective work.

Main duties of the job

We're looking for midwives who are as passionate as we are about providing the best service possible.

* Provide care for women and families during the elective caesarean process.
* Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organization.
* Support and mentor junior staff.
* Work in collaboration with the Flow and Capacity coordinator to review and schedule elective caesarean section requests.
* Support and liaise with women who are planning a caesarean section, ensuring they are fully prepared for their elective caesarean journey.
* Ensure a high standard of midwifery care is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet women's needs in accordance with local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.
* Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
* Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
* Promote provision of education and health promotion.
* Ensure the environment of care is safe, well‑equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Person Specification


Knowledge & Experience

* Demonstrate fulfillment of Band 5 preceptorship and progression to Band 6.
* Awareness of changes within midwifery practice.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Able to manage obstetric emergencies in all settings.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and the relevance to practice.
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
* Maintains own reflective practice.
* Demonstrates effective listening skills and communication skills.
* Confident in teaching and assessing student midwives, midwives, and doctors.
* Experience in IV additives, venipuncture and cannulation, perineal suturing.
* Knowledge of research and development.
* Knowledge of quality improvement.
* Has been involved in audits.
* Evidence of clinical competence in area of specialty.
* Experience of high dependency care.


Qualifications and Education

* Appropriate NMC registration.
* NMC recognised mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards, following 18 months commencement in post.
* Evidence of continuing education or development.
* Degree.
