Financial Director / Financial Controller – Cambridge – Part-time or Full-time
Join a long-established, leading full-service law firm based in central Cambridge. The firm is seeking a qualified Financial Director or Financial Controller to take over from the retiring FD.
The role is offered on a part-time (minimum 3 days per week) or full time basis - with the flexibility to increase to full-time if preferred.

Assignment Details
Primary responsibilities:
* Experienced, qualified accountant and/or financial controller
* Report to the Partners as appropriate
* Overall responsibility for finance functions of the Firm
* Management of accounts team (currently admin assistant and finance manager)
* Maintain well developed system of accurate monthly management accounts
* Manage key commercial contracts within the finance function remit eg leasing agreements
* Manage relationships with banks, auditors, accountants and other parties
* Management of working capital
* Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory obligations - including compliance with SRA rules, PAYE, P35, P11D and VAT reporting and submission
* Manage relations with firm's tax accountants to ensure partnership tax payments are made in January and July
* Preparation of annual financial budgets
* Cash flow forecasting and management
* Preparation of annual financial accounts
* Contribution to cost control and cost monitoring
* Support for ad hoc analysis work –eg business opportunities
* Overseeing staff pension scheme
* Ensuring records at Companies House are up to date and effect any changes required
* Reviewing and liaising with insurers in respect of building, key person insurance and any other such policies
* Providing support and guidance to all team leaders (and fee earners) covering the cash cycle, estimating, recording time, interim and final billing, cash recovery
* Ability to post transactions and competent in double entry book keeping
* Support growing COP team with payments
Skills Required
* Ideally minimum of 5 years in a professional services business
* Experience of working in the Legal Sector is preferable but not essential
* Knowledge of Sage and payroll useful
* A strong technical accountant with a commercial flair
* Team player with strong interpersonal skills
* Ability to explain accounts to Partners in plain language
* Good IT skills – particularly Excel
