Position summary An ambitious primary in Dartford is recruiting a proactive School Business Manger to join the senior leadership team from January 2026. The School Business Manger (SBM) will be responsible for strategic financial planning, income generation and operational excellence. The SBM will participate in handover meetings prior to January 2026, complete induction in January 2026, and begin in-post duties from January 2026. Why this role matters The successful School Business Manger will strengthen the school’s financial resilience by developing diversified income streams, improving procurement, and streamlining administrative processes. The SBM will work closely with the Headteacher and governors to deliver a medium-term financial plan that supports teaching and learning. From the moment the SBM is in post after January 2026, they will be expected to identify quick wins and longer term efficiencies. Core responsibilities - what the SBM will deliver • Lead budget setting, forecasting and monthly management accounts as the School Business Manger. • Research and write grant bids, identify funding opportunities and develop lettings/income strategies as the SBM. • Negotiate contracts, manage suppliers and secure value for money as the School Business Manger. • Oversee payroll liaison, pensions administration and HR records to ensure compliance as the SBM. • Coordinate site management, health & safety audits and contractor performance as the School Business Manger. • Provide clear financial reports and present them to governors and senior leaders as the School Business Manger. • Line-manage office and premises staff and build a productive administrative team as the SBM. Person specification - the SBM we want We are looking for an experienced School Business Manger or senior operations leader with proven experience in school finance, project or bid management, and business systems. The SBM should be numerate, confident with MIS and spreadsheet systems, and experienced at producing accessible reports for non-finance audiences. The SBM must be available for handover/preparation work before January 2026, attend induction in January 2026, and fully take up the role from January 2026.
