Overview
The Patient Care Assistant supports the nursing and wider practice team to achieve the highest standards of care.
Main Purpose & Goals

Key Responsibilities
* Assist with patient handling and restraint.
* Prepare and maintain patient accommodation.
* Clean and disinfect patient accommodation.
* Provide in‑patient care: exercising, feeding and grooming of hospitalised patients.
* Monitor and record supportive care to patients under the direction of the Veterinary Surgeon or Registered Veterinary Nurse.
* Assist with laboratory diagnostic techniques, including sample preparation and packaging for external laboratories.
* Assist with diagnostic imaging, including equipment maintenance and patient positioning.
* Clean, package and sterilise sterile supplies.
* Maintain theatre: environment preparation and equipment cleaning.
* Assist with patient preparation, surgical support and recovery.
* Assist pharmacy management: unpacking orders, stock rotation, temperature control and dispensing medications under the direction of the Veterinary Surgeon or Registered Veterinary Nurse.
* Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of the practice environment.
* Assist reception and client care: answering telephone, handling enquiries, booking procedures and taking payments.
* Follow standard operating protocols: use of PPE, waste disposal, patient handling and specific procedures.
* Assist the veterinary team and reception staff as required.
* Attend and contribute to practice meetings and events.
