Unlock your passions @ Ivybank Vets
Our friendly, motivated team (several who have been with us since qualifying) support each other to provide the best of care to our clients and their pets, giving us a long-established reputation of a high standard of medical and surgical first opinion care. We have lots of longstanding clients within each of the communities.
Although we are 4 sites, the established vets and nurses usually spend their time between 2 branches allowing mixing of information and ways of doing things and case discussion along with following cases through. We often call between branches to ask about cases.
The practices are based on the west coast of Ayrshire near to the beaches and countryside. There are several towns with a range of shops and different community atmospheres. Housing varies from rural to town-based and there is variety in housing from low-cost to more affluent areas. 3 of our branches are near train stations and the trains to Glasgow are regular with city centre shops and activities there. Braehead and Silverburn shopping centres are within 45 mins drive. Prestwick and Glasgow airports are near (accessible by public transport) with Edinburgh airport also accessible. If you like rural days out then there is Dumfries and Galloway as a day out down the coast and Arran or the other islands are a short hop on the ferry.
Our OOH is covered by the local Vets Now who we have longstanding links with and is well established with our owners. This means we generally get away at the end of the day and only work Saturday mornings at the weekend.
We try to host regular lunch and learns and an annual all of practice meeting which combines training with a social event allowing the whole team to get together.
The clinics have well equipped consulting, operating and laboratory facilities at each site with radiography and ultrasound at the 3 larger sites. We have multi-parameter monitors and air warming units to support our surgical patients.
Step into a supportive start
Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 4-5 days a week. Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 7.00pm. You may also be required to participate in a Saturday morning rota.
As well as 11 vets we have experienced nursing, ACA and reception teams who will also support you and help you manage your day. We are a team of generalists (happy to be generalists) with some vets with special interests - ultrasound, exotics, wildlife, ECC. One of our vets visits the local wildlife centre to treat anything from hedgehogs to seals.
Each branch functions with 1-2 vets and 1-2 nurses each day. You will always be working with another vet initially. As our current graduate will vouch, we would look to start with longer, simpler consultations and build up what you do as time goes on. We would also schedule regular ops days with a vet to support you and coach/ mentor you to develop your competence with surgery as well.
If you are interested in learning the bread and butter of GP practice with support, we are the practice for you. In the longer term, we would support certificate study or developing an interest relevant to general practice if you were inspired to do this.
