Our Investment Includes Developing Our People, Making Best Use Of Technology And Creating a Centre Of Excellence For The Future New state-of-the-art forensics centre planned for Thames Valley Celebration of work starting on new forensics centre Topping-out ceremony celebrates a milestone for new forensics centre As part of this transformation, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU) as a Fingerprint Laboratory Technician in our Chemical Enhancement Laboratory based in Kidlington in Oxfordshire (eventually moving to Bicester, Oxfordshire in Spring/Summer of 2026). Working alongside Laboratory personnel, you will provide technical and clerical support to the Chemical Enhancement Laboratory, ensuring equipment is serviceable, maintenance and calibration checks are completed on schedule, and ensuring stocks of forensic consumables and chemicals are both adequate and fit for purpose. In addition, you will provide an administrative function and carry out quality assurance checks of casework in order to provide an efficient and effective service to the public. In this unique role, you will form part of a dynamic team, responding to changing priorities in line with investigative requirements. Flexibility to manage, and respond to operational demands is key. The role requires a high level of customer service and common sense, being able to deal with potentially difficult and unpleasant subject matter and situations whilst presenting a professional interface between FIU and its customers. As with all roles within FIU, the post holder will be required to provide fingerprints and DNA samples for elimination purposes.
